Day One: Kincaid

Hey everyone! This is Ben and Ashley reporting from Day One of Write Alaska! 2018. Our day started in the classroom at the Ed Center. Things were a little rocky at the beginning, due to some technical difficulties, but we all made it through. Ashley helped us break the ice with a name game where students came up with alliterative dishes to bring to a hypothetical barbecue. In addition to learning each other's names, we also learned that some of you guys don't really know what kind of food to bring to a barbecue (like milk).

Students got to explore the blog for the first time. They took a survey and I was pleasantly surprised to see that 100% of this class is excited to be here. I've got the data, and numbers don't lie! Anyhow, class stuff went pretty well, but I'm sure you all came here to read about the field trip. I'll pass it on to Ashley for the details.

We started off the trip to Kincaid with a huge game of Big Booty which is such a silly and awkward game. Anyone who became Number 5 seemed cursed because they would almost always get kicked to the end. We also made a relay race out of matching all of the wader boots from last year. Chester, Noma, and Aatem dominated for the Writing team! Then we broke off into smaller groups to play soccer, the fisherman game, and NYO games. Nah showed off her awesome ninja skills in the fisherman game. Everyone had to work together in order to have a chance at stealing the "fish." In the NYO games, Chester actually broke the stick in the stick pull game with his hulk strength! Overall, I'd say our first day was a tremendous success :)
